Certain selections called out to us when picking this week’s meals, so I knew there were a few great dishes awaiting us when our Hello Fresh delivery arrived.  Hello Fresh is a meal kit subscription box where you’ll get the recipes and ingredients to make 3 meals for two (or 4) every week. Take $40 off your first box with coupon code 7UT7K8. Hello Fresh is a subscription, but you can pause your deliveries and choose alternate meals (at least for the Classic box). There’s also a vegetarian box available. This is a solid meal subscription box with easy and accessible recipes.

Hello Fresh recently redesigned their menu cards, and the instructions are super easy to follow.  It has nice illustrations, is clearly written, and even lets you know nutrition info, prep time, and which recipes are best to make first to optimize freshness of perishables.  Hello Fresh sends all the sauces, bouillon and such in individual serving packets or in off-the-shelf brand name packaging; although it means a little more packaging, they survive shipping better than the plastic cups used by Plated and others (and you can see that you are not getting food service condiments from a number 10 can).

Spanish Steak Salad with Red Pepper & Roasted Garlic Vinaigrette:  We really enjoyed this dish — the proportion of meat, cheese, and dressing to greens was such that the meal did not have the feel of a salad.  As always, the meat was tender and flavorful, but the real surprise was how great, albeit simple, the toast were.

We made this pasta with our March Hamptons Lane box!  I  had a bit of the great “00” semolina left over from the previous review and couldn’t resist trying to create a “Spanish” accompaniment to our Spanish Steak Salad (I incorporated some spanish olives and some Luscious Lemon from our 50 Shades of Chicken box).

Bangers & Cauliflower Mash with Onion Gravy:  This tasted great (who can argue with onion gravy), and the cauliflower mask urned out really well.  When I opened the bag, I was so excited at the smell of nutmeg, thinking we had some plump bangers soon to be served. I was disappointed in the sausage, though.  It was a very delicious mild Italian sausage, but I had expected a true “banger” with oatmeal and seasoned without fennel seed and other Italian staples.  You can sub out my potatoes for a healthier item, but don’t mess with my Irish sausage!

Tilapia Provençale with Citrus & Herb Veggies:  Delicious and pretty to plate, this was a nice combo.  Surprisingly, it was the olives that really gave the dish a provincial flair.

To me, Hello Fresh is one of the easiest meal kit subscriptions out there. This is not a bad thing and it’s one of the reasons we enjoy it so much. Take $40 off your first box with coupon code 7UT7K8.
