And… Also before I “review” please note this is the one box I forgot to change the address on. So I’m pretty much just telling you what’s in it. Whoops! My husband reports that the packaging for the January Birchbox is normal, but he didn’t include a photo of it. I was excited by a couple things here and the last item made me feel punished.

January 2014 Birchbox Review: Go Time

Birchbox Info Card
Birchbox Info Card

Every Birchbox has an information card. You know this. My husband didn’t take a photo of my punishment item – Ahmad Tea ($0.53). He knows I wouldn’t give two craps that it’s a Buckingham Palace-approved brand. It’s tea. Birchbox, you sent me tea two boxes ago. Why do you hate me?

Ok, it’s not really a punishment box, the rest of my box is awesomesauce.

Birchbox Postcards
Birchbox Postcards

I was excited by these postcards, because they fit with my New Year’s Bucket List! I actually need to add this to do – to send a note to a loved one – for this month to my calendar. I spent an hour today writing things in and stickering it. Birchbox did offer 15 Rifle Paper postcards for $20 ($$$!) in its Birchbox Plus program. I passed. UPDATE: These aren’t postcards, they are inspirational cards. But you could totally repurpose them and stick them on some card stock with some washi or put them in your smash book or whatever!

Liz Earle Cleansing Cloth
Liz Earle Cleansing Cloth

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit ($6.45 for the cleanser, $3 for the cloth = $9.45) Gently removes all the muck and sweeps away dead skin cells. It sounds luxurious!

Omnipotent Duosity
Omnipotent Duosity

Omnipotent Duosity Hair Treatment ($3.33) This is awesome! You fold up the package, tear it off, and squeeze the products out together so they can react! Birchbox says:

The gluten- and paraben-free formula goes to work immediately to repair years’ worth of hair damage, leaving strands lustrous, hydrated, and full of healthy bounce.

For me, I’d be happy if it repaired 3 weeks of Vermont.

Inika Shadow + Midnight Monarch
Inika Shadow + Midnight Monarch

INIKA Mineral Eyeshadow ($20 – full size) I love mineral makeup because of its versatility (wet or dry!) and natural ingredients! The box says it is “eternal marine” but that is supposed to be green, and this doesn’t look green to me. Husband says it is silver.

Camille Beckman Glycerine Hand Therapy ($0.58)  Midnight Monarch has top notes of jasmine and bergamot over a base of patchouli and sweet vanilla amber. My husband says (helpfully): “Doesn’t really smell. I don’t know what that smells like (I asked him if it smells like Angel, which is what I wear most of the time) and I have a cold so it might.”

My January Birchbox had a total value of $33.89. Considering that I get points back on rating each item, I’m pretty stoked about the value of this box! My husband will bring it home with him a few weeks when he visits. Check out all my Birchbox Reviews and don’t forget to take a look at other Beauty Subscription Boxes. You can find out more and subscribe to Birchbox here!

V-Day Alert: Also, I haven’t mentioned it elsewhere, but Birchbox Man on an annual subscription is really a screaming deal! It’s $195, so you get 12 boxes for the price of ten, plus 195 Birchbox points ($19.50 in the shop). All my husband’s Birchboxes have been really high value and I recommend this as an excellent Valentine’s Day gift!

I got the Liz Earle cloth and cleanser in my October box, but unfortunately Birchbox counted them as two separate items and they were listed separately on my card even though they came in the same little blue box, but now seeing your card that they consider them one item on some people’s card and not on others makes me feel like I got short changed. Maybe I’ll send them a pic of both the cards and inquire about the difference.

WHAT THAT IS CRAZY TALK!!! Do you know what box number you had?

        • Brandy
          01.14.14

That is weird/sucky and really not fair to people that got them in earlier boxes. I wonder if it was due to cost of importing them at the time or something?

This was the response I got in reply to my inquiry:

“The Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit is a really wonderful sample and is completely new to Birchbox. We wanted our subscribers to experience the full Liz Earle cleansing experience by including both the cleanser and the muslin cloth in your box. These are two separate items offered by Liz Earle, so that is why they were considered as 2 samples in your box and not 1.

Since these products are considered 2 samples, you are able to leave reviews for points on both products!”

I’m a bit baffled by the logic of their argument that me getting to review both products is a bonus for me versus the people who got it in Jan, as I see it more as this took the place of another sample I could have gotten and thus reviewed. C’est la vie

            It’s totally weird.

Hi! I was wondering how you look for the other box number variations? I read above that you can do it but I can’t figure it out. Thanks!

  • Kim

Hi! How do you check the other box numbers? I looked but can’t figure it out. Thanksgiving!

    • Kim
      01.11.14

Haha! My stupid auto correct put thanksgiving by accident. I thought I stopped it before it posted but it obviously didn’t and I can’t erase it. Oh well!

Hahah. See the numbers after bb? Change those. Google does NOT like it (as in it will penalize your site!) if you use an affiliate link and a plain link on the same post (or even the same site). It’s where it says bb1. Change the one to anything up to 75. You can delete the rest after. Sorry if I wasn’t more clear, sorry for the hassle!

If you log into your account and go to box, if you click on the box month (at the bottom of the page) that is where that link comes from.

You’re going to love the Liz Earle! It smells so soothing and the cloth is fabulous for light exfoliation. I think its one of my favorite Birchbox finds ever.

    xo.

well, alas, i must wait! i have been hearing a ton of good things about the products in this box! i’m pretty psyched to get it, and my personal courier is pretty swell too 🙂

I got that hand cream last month. It’s too strong and not my type of scent, but it’s AMAZING for dry hands. I am tempted to buy it in another scent.

      01.11.14

it’s pretty inexpensive! i can’t wait to try it! i have been going through hand cream like mad this past month!

The Camille Beckman scent ‘Mango Beach’ is pretty spectacular. All of the scents are strong (I have tried several) but that one smells like a vacation. 🙂

    Love the Liz Earle!

Nice box. I got the Camille Beckman body butter last month and really love it. Love the texture and the scent. I will be ordering the full size.

I also got the tea but have not received it before-so am curious to try it….I guess. lol

I would love to know what you think of the Liz Earl. I have never received it….really hoped to get it this month but will not be receiving it. I did receive an Eve Lom similar product sample from Sephora. It is a cleanser with a muslin cloth, like Liz Earl. Have you ever tried Eve Lom? Interested in the comparison, as I think I shall never get the Liz Earl. lol

      01.17.14

Whoops, this one got caught in my spam filter. I haven’t tried it yet because the box went to my husband in Vermont (I forgot to change the address back). He’s bringing it with him next week!

  • Jennifer
    01.11.14

I have been wanting the Liz Earle, and i don’t think they will ever send it! I am getting the Ahmad tea (which I am happy about) but otherwise my box is different.

  • Iris
    01.11.14

Almost box twins, haha. In this month’s box, I’ll get receiving (next Tuesday!):

    – Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit
    – Omnipotent Duosity Hair Treatment
    – Camille Beckman Body Butter
    – Coastal Scents Revealed
    – Under Armour Braided Headband

I got Ahmad Teas in my November box so I managed to avoid tea this time around. XD

    • Brandy
      01.11.14

I got tea in my November box. I am jealous of your box. Because it doesn’t have tea.

      • Iris
        01.11.14

The bright side is that you’ve already received two different brands of tea so unless Birchbox continues to keep adding different teas to their boxes, you’re probably safe from receiving tea for a while! 😀

          01.12.14

They’re sampling Harney & Sons next month, so I hope you don’t get jinxed. I, on the other hand, envy you for scoring tea twice in 3 months!
